Bonnie Ship The Diamond
The Diamond is a ship, mlads,
for the Davis Straight shes bound.
And the quay it is all garnished
with bonnie lasses round.
Captain Thompson gives the order,
to sail the ocean wide.
Where the sun it never sets mlads
nor darkness dims the sky.
Chorus:
And its cheer up mlads! Let your hearts never fail,
The Bonny ship the Diamond goes a fishing for the whale!
Upon the quay at Peterhead,
the lasses gather round.
With their shawls all pulled about them
and the salt tears running down.
Now dont you cry my bonnie lass
though youll be left behind.
For the rose will grow on Greenlands ice
before Ive changed my mind!
Heres a health to the "Reschation",
likewise the "Eliza Dame"
Heres a health to the "Rattler" of Montrose
and the "Diamond" ship of fame!
We wear the trousers of the white,
and the jackets of the blue.
When we return to Peterhead,
well have sweethearts anew!
Itll be bright both day and night,
when the Greenland lads return,
With a ship thats full of oil mlads
and moneys for to burn!
Well make the cradle for to rock
and the blankets for to tear,
And every lass in Peterhead
will sing "Hush-a-bye my dear!"
